In situ measurements of surface tension-driven shape recovery in a metallic glass

چکیده
A new technique, involving nanoindentation and in situ scanning probe microscopy at high temperature under an inert atmosphere, is used to study deformation of a Pt-based metallic glass. As temperature is increased into the supercooled liquid regime, impressions made by nanoindentation flatten due to surface tension-driven viscous flow. In situ measurements of shape recovery at various temperatures and times permit an estimation of the apparent activation energy for Newtonian-viscous flow. 2009 Acta Materialia Inc. A Pore Scale Evaluation of Produced Biosurfactants for Ex-situ Enhanced Oil Recovery
Microbial enhanced oil recovery (MEOR) is an economical method used to improve the oil recovery from reservoirs. In the MEOR techniques, by applying different microorganisms, a variety of products such as bioacid, biogas, biosurfactant, and biopolymer are generated, among which biosurfactant, one of the important metabolites, is produced by bacteria. It is worthy to note that bacteria are suita...

As a physiochemical property, asphaltenes are known to be one the most surface active compounds in crude oil. Due to such property, their behavior is most probably influenced by fluid-fluid interactions at the contact surface (interface). Potentially and naturally, in most cases, water is in contact with crude oil and is co-produced with it as well. Considering that asphaltene molecules are pol...
متن کاملAspects of the mechanics of metallic glasses
Metallic glasses are amorphous materials that possess unique mechanical properties, such as high tensile strengths and good fracture toughnesses. Also, since they are amorphous, metallic glasses exhibit a glass transition, and at temperatures above this glass transition, they soften dramatically and are therefore amenable to net-shape thermoplastic forming processes. This combination of superio...
متن کاملNoncontact measurement of high-temperature surface tension and viscosity of bulk metallic glass-forming alloys using the drop oscillation technique
High-temperature surface tension and viscosities for five bulk metallic glass-forming alloys with widely different glass-forming abilities are measured. The measurements are carried out in a high-vacuum electrostatic levitator using the drop oscillation technique. The surface tension follows proportional mathematical addition of pure components’ surface tension except when some of the constitue...

Bibi Hakimeh oilfield consists of more than 145 oil producing wells. Its Oligomiocene Asmari reservoir is dominantly made of limestone. The act of a reverse fault on the north flank of Bibi-Hakimeh Field caused a significant thickness reduction in Gachsaran formation in the way that in some drilled wells, members No. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of Gachsaran cap rock have been totally eliminated. This caus...
